Theranos is a new company founded by a brilliant young woman scientist who has developed a technique for testing blood samples using microscopic quantities of blood. This has the potential to revolutionize testing, with sample size so small that results can be obtained with only a few drops of blood. Not only is this more appealing to patients, as the extraction of blood for testing is among the small frustrations patients don’t like to endure, but it also allows a wider range of test results that would be available in a normal laboratory. In fact, they say they will be setting up shop in Walgreens across the country.
Will you get your own labs and bring them to be to review and interpret…..I think that will probably be among the ‘new medicine’ we see in the next decade and beyond.
