CONCERNS ABOUT QUESTIONABLE DIOVAN RESEARCH SHOULD NOT WORRY PATIENTS

diovan_bannerDiovan is a commonly prescribed medication for high blood pressure that also can benefit the kidneys and the heart.  This medication, a member of the ARB (angiotensin receptor blocker) category has been available for over a decade, and is very popular due to its mild side-effect profile and effectiveness.

Recently, questions are being raised in a Wall Street Journal Article about research out of Japan, from the 2000’s.  This research appears to have been falsified to make Diovan appear ‘superior’ to other medications do to cardioprotective benefits (Heart protection benefits.)   The safety of the medication is not being called into question, but rather it’s ‘additional benefits’ and that these claims for superiority are not true.

Additional investigation will reveal the veracity of these concerns, but for now, if you are on Diovan, there is no reason to change your prescription or to worry that you are on a dangerous medication.  The safety of Diovan is not in question.
